Origins
World Class Maintenance as a precursor
In 2002, the Netherlands joined the commitment to make Europe one of the world's most dynamic and competitive economies in the world by 2010 – the Lisbon Strategy. Then, in 2007, the Ministry of Economic Affairs designated 'maintenance' as the main focus in the 'Pieken in de Delta' ('Peaks in the Delta') development programme, one important reason being the increasing shortage of aircraft technicians and other technicians in the Netherlands and Europe. This led to the founding of World Class Maintenance, a programme that brings together the private sector, knowledge organisations and educational institutions with links to maintenance in the Netherlands to collaborate and to innovate. The Dutch Institute World Class Maintenance (DI-WCM) foundation emerged from the programme in 2010.
Launch of the World Class Aviation Academy
The West Brabant Regional Training Centre supports the ambitions of World Class Maintenance. In 2009, it launched a new centre for commercial and technical maintenance aviation training courses: the World Class Aviation Academy. Our ambitions and the potential for growth are considerable.
